Dr. Maria Constantinou, PhD, MPhSt, BPhty, GradCertEd
Dr Maria Constantinou (PhD, MPhSt(Sports), BPhty, GradCertEd) is an Academic and an Australian registered physiotherapist with extensive clinical, teaching and research experience. Maria is a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy at Australian Catholic University. She has been the Secretary on the Executive Board of the International Federation of Sports Physical Therapy (2011-2019) and a National Sports Physiotherapy Australia committee member since 2008. Maria is an Australian Physiotherapy Association Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist and a Fellow of Australian Sports Medicine Federation. Maria worked as a Sports Physiotherapist at several major sporting events including the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympic Games, the Vancouver Winter 2010 Olympic Games, the Melbourne 2006 and Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and the Papua New Guinea 2015 and Vanuatu 2017 Pacific Games. Maria was the Polyclinic and Team Physiotherapy Programs Coordinator for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Maria has an interest in sharing knowledge and has taught or presented in over 25 countries. Her academic career spans over a 20-year period where she has been involved in curriculum development, coordinating postgraduate physiotherapy programs, teaching in physiotherapy, and conducting research. Her research interests comprise the sports injury prevention and surveillance, sports and therapeutic taping, reflective practice in health education and gait and function in hip osteoarthritis the focus of her PhD studies. Maria’s publications include the book ‘Therapeutic Taping for Musculoskeletal Conditions’ which has been translated into several languages. Maria has a passion for the international advancement of sports physiotherapy and has been involved in supporting its growth in several countries.
